Movie Info

A young boy suffering from a rare, progeria-like genetic disorder relies on his relationship with his politician father to get him through the tough times. Thirteen-year-old Auro (Amitabh Bachchan) is bright, witty, and affectionate. His mother, Vidya (Vidya Balan), is a successful gynecologist, and his father, Amol Arte (Abhishek Bachchan), is a progressive politician who values honesty above all else. Despite appearing nearly five times older than his actual age, Auro is content thanks to the unconditional love of his parents. When he starts to get down, Auro looks to his father and remembers that things aren't always as bad as they seem.

  • Will Auro survive to know his Pa and reunite his parents? Forget about the disease: this is a vanity vehicle designed to showcase the Big B's versatility.

  • This would-be tearjerker without the musical numbers of typical Bollywood fare is for die-hard Amitabh Bachchan fans only.

  • The film owes much of its interest to the alertness and sincerity of the younger Bachchan and the luminous Vidya Balan as the anguished parents, and to the soft wash of the tasteful playback songs supplied by Ilaiyaraaja.

  • Odd and sometimes oddly affecting.

  • Disappointingly, Paa is not as out-of-the-box as it could have been.

  • Well-acted, funny and occasionally witty with terrific make-up design. However, it's often convoluted, awkwardly paced and too uneven as a whole.

Besides the effort put in by Big B (Amitabh Bachchan) to transform himself into Auro's character, there's hardly anything worth applauding in this movie. While the performance by the entire cast is outstanding, the script is awfully appalling.
