Audience Reviews for Chains

Raffaello Matarazzo's "Chains" is the first of his Runaway Melodramas that combine the emotion with other aspects of the neo-realist genre to create this new genre. The film is about a sound and seemingly tight knit family when suddenly out of fate the wife's old lover comes back in the picture. While the wife is determined to stay faithful and save her family, her ex is highly persistent about wanting her back. The film reaches a boiling point when the ex threatens via letter to tell the husband about their past unless she comes away with him. The husband, after confronting the kids, learns of the letter and finds his wife in the arms of her ex while in his hotel room. Turns out that he was getting frustrated and the woman was trying to pull away. This all leads to despair and it's up to the wife to save the day and her family!
