Michelle G @tediously_brief 5d was on the edge of my seat, heart-racing for 85 mins straight. the stamina and strength of the characters to run that much for that long amidst the chaos unfolding around them? sad we couldn't get more time with all of them. thought i might get motionsick from the handheld video camera pov but it actually was v immersive and really enhanced the uneasiness and urgency of the situation -- ww cinematography!!! wish i could see this in theaters on a bigggg screen. *stares at paramount pictures* See more Jack C @MovieRat01 6d Cloverfield is still one of the best found footage films ever made, and honestly I appreciate the style even more now. The handheld camera and limited perspective make it feel like you’re actually there rather than watching a polished Hollywood monster film. I love that you never get the full picture. You’re stuck seeing everything from the characters’ perspective, so when something massive happens, you’re just as confused and panicked as they are. The monster feels more threatening because you rarely get a perfect look at it, while the destruction of New York feels genuinely chaotic. The characters also feel grounded. They’re just ordinary people trying to survive an insane situation, which makes everything feel much more believable. The sound, pacing and atmosphere are brilliant too. Even after all these years, the found footage style gives Cloverfield an intensity that a traditional monster film just can’t match. Genuinely brilliant and still holds up. 5/5. See more Lucas S @JuliusCaesar1 Aug 23 I like the found footage aspect of this, and the post 9/11 anxiety of the movie gives it a feel I just can’t describe. And all those who hate this peak of the found footage genre, just can’t handle it then. So what if they flesh out the characters, something you don’t typically see in Kaiju movies and disaster movies as a whole, and you just kind of care for these characters in a way. The creature design is amazing, the parasites are genuinely terrifying in a way, and it is a well executed Kaiju film. The characters are great, and my only complaint is that I always forget the opening scene whenever I watch this movie with someone. I found this movie to be engaging and entertaining, a little hilariously cheesy at times, suspenseful and interesting.
