Movie Info

A girl with powerful dreams for her future may not have the chance to live them out in this drama based on the novel by Davida Wills Hurwin. Samantha (Shiri Appleby) and Juliana (Larisa Oleynik) are a pair of high-school students who have been close friends for years. Both girls share a love of dancing, but while the more introverted Samantha sees dancing as a hobby and little more, the outgoing and upbeat Juliana has a genuine gift and dreams of attending Julliard. Determined to achieve her dreams, Juliana sets her sights on her Julliard audition while removing all distractions from her life -- including her boyfriend Eli (Scott Vickaryous). Juliana's life is turned upside down, however, when she learns she's contracted cancer, but while she wants to attend Julliard as if nothing has changed, her parents (Peter Coyote and Patricia Kalember) are vehemently opposed to the idea. Meanwhile Samantha worries about what her isolated life will be like without her best friend. A Time for Dancing was the first dramatic feature from cinematographer and documentary filmmaker Peter Gilbert.

Audience Reviews for A Time for Dancing

Okay so this movie like everybody says looks like it's going to be all about dancing... Which is actually only a small part of it. So what this movie is about is 2 best friends Shiri Appleby(Sam) and Larisa Oleynik(Jules). Jules is obessed with dancing and it is her life and Sam wants to be just like Jules. Jules has everything going for her she's got an awesome best friend, loving family, and when is the one that gets talked about the most, expecially in her dance class. Jules is full of hope and joy and is dreaming of the future with an optimistic mind. As for her best friend, she is pretty much the opposite. She isnt full of hope and joy because it's been crushed by problems at home and in life. She loves to write and only does dancing because her best friend does and she wants to be just like her. Her mom has grown a little distant from her and she thinks that she likes Jules better along with the rest of the world and because of that she doesnt expect much from Jules and she knows she will be living her her shadow for the rest of her life. She's lost and doesnt know who she is only who Jules is. So she always upset about that and the fact that Jules gets more attention then her also makes her upset. She is pretty much on the border line of depression. Jules tells her everything but Sam tells Jules nothing. So at the beginning of the movie Jules one and only goal in life is to get into Julliard. So she practices all the time, and because of that she shuns the rest of the world, breaks up with her boyfriend and hangs out less with her bestfriend Sam. Dance is her life until one day she starts having hip pains. When they go to check it out it, it ends up she has type 4 cancer and that shes going to need to go into kemo immediatly if she wants to fight it off. Through this she becomes weaker and her dream is getting harder to reach. She finds out how wonderful life really is and looks at it in a new shade then she used to. And this is when the movie gets really good so im not going to say anymore. The ending of this movie is pretty superb and it almost brought me to cry. The acting was awesome and the story was awesome. So seriously go check out this movie, you wont be disappointed. And if you really liked this then check out " A Walk To Remember"

A very sad and obsessive movie about a chick that won't stop dancing even in the face of terminal cancer. She dumps her friends, boyfriend and family for the only thing that makes her happy. It is not long before she can't even do that anymore.
