Movie Info

Angel is the fateful love story between Thierry, a world famous cyclist, who meets Fae, a sex worker, on his holiday in Senegal. Unlike many of the western men on holiday there, Thierry has no intention of exploring the sex-trade. But he and Fae encounter each other with the force of a coup de foudre: these two whose bodies are their work find in each other the redemptive love they seek. But the complications of Thierry's past as a disgraced athlete and Fae's refusal to register with the authorities so as not to define her life, may not allow the dream they enter to be realized. Angel explores this story with intoxicating sensuality taking us into the present and past of these fated characters.

  • Where a lesser film could unravel in favour of a portrait of extremes, Angel maintains an authenticity which transcends place and status.

  • Flemish director Koen Mortier's latest film... [uses] flashbacks (which are sometimes confusing) to flesh out the two main characters' backstories.

  • There's a distinctive intensity to this film, both aesthetically and emotionally, that makes it well worthwhile.

  • Angel evokes just the right amount of emotion to justify a place in our hearts for tragic storytelling.

    June 29, 2021 | Rating: 7.5/10 | Full Review…
  • There's a constant feeling of tragedy in the air, an ominous sensation that surrounds everything. But in spite of that, Angel is thoughtful tale about two lost souls taking a shot at real happiness, even if it lasts for just one night.
