Movie Info

A socially awkward, severely nearsighted accountant rediscovers his childhood love of salsa dancing after losing his job and reclaiming his self-esteem. When Jamie Lesser (David Rhein) was just a young boy, Strictly Ballroom was his favorite movie. Years later, Jamie's childhood dreams of becoming a salsa dancer have smoldered, and his love life is in shambles. Turning to his street-smart, hip-hop-dancing sister, Lianne (Marlene Rhein), for advice, Jamie is inspired to hit the dance floor and become the man he was truly meant to be.

It is hard to see how "The Big Shot-Caller" will catch fire with audiences. From its awkward, ambiguous title to its lack of charismatic performers, this minor drama doesn't have many commercial prospects.

Family togetherness goes only so far. Witness The Big Shot-Caller, a lackluster soaper written and directed by Marlene Rhein, who stars with her brother, David Rhein. (They portray brother and sister, no less.)

Fortunately, musicvideo vet Rhein's competent helming skills counterbalance her off-putting dialogue and flat acting style so that the pic...doesn't come off strictly amateur.

Audience Reviews for The Big Shot-Caller

Cleverly written, heartfelt film about a socially awkward, legally blind man who sets out to achieve his dream of becoming a salsa dancer. Despite its generic sounding description, "The Big Shot-Caller" is a unique, completely winning charmer made with warmth and heart.
