BLACK CRAB is a Swedish action thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world torn apart by war. During a long, harsh winter, six soldiers embark on a covert mission across a frozen archipelago, risking their lives to transport a mysterious package that could end the war. As they enter hostile enemy territory, they have no idea what dangers lie ahead or who--if anyone--they can trust. But for speed skater turned soldier Caroline Edh, the mission is about something else entirely. Starring Noomi Rapace in a film directed by Adam Berg, BLACK CRAB follows six soldiers on a desperate mission to bring an end to the war which has destroyed their lives.

I'm a movie nitpicker, and honestly, this is the worst movie I've seen this year. I don't watch many movies, but this was too much. The protagonist seemed more like a criminal than a hero. There was no military context, she was mentally unstable, and didn't follow protocols. It felt like my intelligence was being insulted; it's like the movie thought the audience was stupid.

Could have been a great film, decent performances and the bleak setting was effective. My problem is that it seemed 20 minutes of the film were lost on the cutting room floor. Those minutes contained background of the characters, nature of the package they carried, etc... or the screenplay just wasn't well thought.

Getting past the dub in English (Reading the subtitles and not the lips), I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A few plot holes, "why did Edh shoot Nylund, knowing that the virus was going to destroy everyone, including her daughter? And didn't even apologise...That's Swiss humour for you! Having said that, the film had pace and credibility.
