BUCKING FASTARD is about two sisters, Jean and Joan Holbrooke (Kate Mara, Rooney Mara), who are so close to each other that they speak in unison, love the same man, and have the same dreams. They even make the same slip of tongue in unison. We cannot see the world as they see it, but we do see how the world reacts to them – through the courts and the press, through those that want to help and those who want to use them, through the eyes of beasts both tame and wild, and even through their own echoes in the core of the earth.

Every time the filmmaker’s typically unconventional ideas threaten to tilt the movie too far askew, the sisters bring “Bucking Fastard” back on the straight and narrow. They beautifully elucidate Herzog’s complex notions of loneliness. Go to Full Review

This review may be focusing a great deal on how the main gambit here is far less out there than advertised – at least once it settles into a groove, which is swiftly – but there’s plenty of bizarre fun to be had. Go to Full Review

Bucking Fastard is probably not a film I will ever revisit. It’s ultimately a film that’s more style than substance, and despite committed performances by both Rooney and Kate Mara, Bucking Fastard goes nowhere FAST. Go to Full Review
