Carmo, Hit the Road Photos

Movie Info

Edgy, hard as nails, Brazilian belle Carmo would do anything to escape the hell hole of a Brazilian border town where she lives. So when a lonesome, wheelchair-bound petty thief named Marco arrives on the scene in an old pick up truck full of smuggled goods, she jumps at the chance to help him transport the shipment. Carmo and Marco start a lawless, reckless journey of self discovery, and an unlikely romance through the lush and jagged South American landscape, chased by banditos, the police and their own passions alike. -- (C) First Run Features

Critic Reviews for Carmo, Hit the Road

All Critics (7) | Top Critics (3)

  • It's not a memorable ride, but there's enough rueful humor, tropical sensuality and borrowed style along the way to make it pleasant.

  • Pasta's maximalist approach repels any emotional investment, even as Loureiro and Martínez make for an appealing screen couple among the appalling settings.

  • Pasta films it all, including dazzling stretches of South American landscape, with a painter's eye for color and the intriguing faces of his extras.

  • In the end, Carmo, Hit the Road suffers from an inability to decide what it wants to present.

    Oct 18, 2010 | Rating: 1.5/4 | Full Review…
  • Euro-Brazilian director Pasta casts a contemptuous eye on the exotic masses around him, characterizing the underclass as duplicitous and depraved, and mentally challenged at best. Forget about how it all ended up that way. Poverty porn, Brazilian style.

  • "Carmo, Hit the Road" is the work of an inexperienced filmmaker nearly capable of making a competent film, something "Carmo, Hit the Road" is not.
