Gunned down by Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon), dying murderer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) uses black magic to put his soul inside a doll named Chucky -- which Karen Barclay (Catherine Hicks) then buys for her young son, Andy (Alex Vincent). When Chucky kills Andy's babysitter, the boy realizes the doll is alive and tries to warn people, but he's institutionalized. Now Karen must convince the detective of the murderous doll's intentions, before Andy becomes Chucky's next victim.

Scripters Don Mancini, John Lafia and Holland himself do score points for showing that they can make at least a fairly scary movie by deft scene construction and the use of suspense rather than gore.

A horror classic that goes too disturbingly dark with the spiritual at times, but delivers an original and entertaining film. Particularly enjoyable are the special effects, whether Chucky is played by a costumed actor or animated by impressive animatronics. The original in the famed killer doll series is still the best. Brad Dourif brings life to the character and becomes Chucky from the get go. This was the good old days when the character was supposed to be dark and scary instead of being half comedy, and when the good guys were pure and prevailed over the evil villain in the end.

Child’s play is a very fun old school 80s horror film. Good plot intense scenes towards the end. Chucky’s movements being so eerie, like he walks like a human. This movie is a very box office hit for the 80s. Andy Barkley gets a good guy doll for his birthday, he gets a doll named chucky aka Charles Lee ray. Through out the movie bad stuff happens stuff from the kitchen. Stuff keeps falling out of nowhere into chucky starts his massacre. Starting brutal attacks with his voodoo knife. Overall child’s play is a fun horror film to watch featuring the most hilarious killer doll

Childs plays is definitely like its own film it's kind of like its own thing where you can watch it.And not have to bother watching the other films.Because it's kind of its own thing with the lovable and attractive catherine.Hicks, a young alex vincent chris anderon and the amazing brad durhaff.No jennifer tayli, no fiona doriff, no outside universe, characters.It really felt like its own movie
