Sixteen-year-old Jamie Schwartz (Alex Wolff) is not the most popular kid at his all-boys boarding school. Disconnected from students and teachers, he believes he is destined to play Holden Caulfield, the main character in The Catcher in the Rye, and has adapted the book as a play. After a series of increasingly hostile altercations with the boys at school, Jamie runs away to search for author J.D. Salinger (Chris Cooper).

A road movie about high school students looking for Salinger. That's all there is to it, but it hold together in many ways as a coming-of-age movie. The heroine, Stefania Owen, is more mature than the main character, and she's good in many ways. It's a good contrast there. But there are a lot of films about finding Salinger :-)

A charming and, at times, visually stunning coming-of-age story. Coming Through The Rye is a wonderful tribute to a wonderful book, even though Jamie is certainly (and thankfully) no Holden Caulfield.

A wonderful movie, masterfully written, superbly acted, beautifully filmed. Poignant and touching, but not heavy; a perfect capture of adolescence. I could not recommend it more highly.

Sleeper. Nice flick. Not great, but, not bad. I give it a B for a grade. Solid acting and directing. Writing wasn't horrible considering the plot is rather simple. They did the best they could.
