Russ G Dec 29 A murder mystery but not a full-blown Noir. Nosy insurance investigator stirs the pot in a tight-knit small town. There's a rather creepy rob-the-cradle romance between the mature gumshoe and the local beauty, and an even creepier crush her younger sister has on the hunk. I'd say there are just a few too many convenient coincidences and implausible contrivacies and innocent suspects acting a bit too suspiciously. it's set at Christmas time so TCM throws it into rotation every December. OK if you've got 82 minutes to while away but not a lost classic. See more tucker s @tucker83014 Oct 28 I thought this was a great movie, sort of along the lines of Mr 880. The procedure is interesting as actor Barbara Britton shines as the love interest who may have a relative involved in the cover up to a crime. Unfortunately, the third act falls apart. There's interesting early work by lensman Ernest Lazlo who would go on to earn eight Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, See more Read all reviews
