Vinicius M @Vini_Monteiro Sep 9, 2026 Revisiting the BBC’s 90s adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s "The Silver Chair" is a nostalgic trip hindered by severe budget limitations. The production suffers from a lethargic pace and overly theatrical direction, which suffocates the adventure's urgency and makes tense moments feel clumsy. Visually, the series is a mixed bag: while practical effects and oversized sets offer undeniable handmade charm, the dated chroma key, amateurish costumes, and a robotic, lifeless animatronic Aslan severely break the immersion. However, the main cast carries the show, with Tom Baker absolutely stealing the spotlight as a captivatingly gloomy Puddleglum, making up for the over-the-top secondary characters in foam suits. Despite a rushed climax and a narrative focused more on moral debates than frantic action, the deep respect for the source material and the crew's creative effort give it a genuine charm that rewards patient viewers. See more Jun 19, 2021 I'm so lucky!!! The Silver Chair is my very favorite of the whole series and I love this series over the Disney version. One BIG reason for this series' is Susan is pretty. Anybody whose read it knows that. Many know you mess up on Susan there won't be a new The Silver Chair. Tilda Swinton did an excellent job in both series, too. I had the greatest crush on this series' Edmund played by actor Jonathan C. Scott for similar reasons I enjoy Adam J. Brody a lot: great tantrum skills. Couldn't even make it more than ten minutes in. The acting is atrocious. The special effects are beyond poor. Nobody looks like they're even trying to play their parts well. See more Mar 16, 2011 Good biography of C.S. Lewis. Some connections between his life and its influence on the books seems a bit speculative.
