A closet door has been opened, calmly yet decisively and resonantly: it remains to be seen what - and who - comes out of it.
[D]elivering the message of love and tolerance that is this movie's reason to be.
ELKDTAL might be bringing a "new story" to Bollywood but plays out too flat, lightweight and facile to be of any consequence. Tell us another love story, please.
It turns out Bollywood's first lesbian love story is just a backdrop for a larger story. And I'm okay with that.
The film belongs to Anil Kapoor. Be it being a mama's boy even post 50, his sense of fulfillment while being in the kitchen, his simmering romance with Juhi Chawla or his emotional outburst near the end -- everything gets his hundred percent.
This could have been a bolder and more explicit film, but sometimes cinema should work like a street play. Sometimes we need to preach beyond the choir.
Kapoor Ahuja is the film's weakest link, and the reason why this story falls short.
...a movie that is part rom and part com and never comfortable in either zone.
The writing isn't all top-grade, but this film has its heart in the right place and sometimes that's all that really matters.
