It's not surprising that Mexico's drug war can verge into surrealism, as Mexico oozes with surrealism. But there are many shades to this condition, and The Mayor captures one of them with just about the right deadpan tone. Go to Full Review

01/02/2015 disturbing, but interesting if you're interested in issues of drug violence and See more 05/02/2014 Colorful portrait of a very controversial but successful mexican politician, the wealthy mayor of a suburb town of Monterey, the richest town in Mexico. Coming from one of the richest and most influental families, he installed a secret intelligence police, a database of all domestic servants (this was left out in the movie), got the crime rate down to effective zero, and many wonder how. His approval rate was 90%, but he only served for 2 years. In his famous commencement speech, he mentioned that the man who issued him a death threat had been killed in Mexico City. This was done before the body was found by the authorities. Did he strike a deal with the cartel's, did his strong man image make him succeed, the secret police, the likely illegal methods?
