Critic Reviews for Fighting with My Family

All Critics (178) | Top Critics (28)

  • It's a ramshackle movie at best, stuffed with cliches, cartoonish yet visually inert, a plea for non-conformity that never veers far from the commercial playbook.

    Mar 20, 2019 | Rating: 2.5/5 | Full Review…
  • Though it's set in the world of wrestling, "Fighting With My Family" can be understood by anyone who has ever wanted anything intensely, which is everybody.

    Mar 8, 2019 | Rating: 3/4 | Full Review…
  • The film struggles to dramatize Paige's triumph as anything but preordained.

    Mar 1, 2019 | Full Review…
  • Despite a great real-life background story, and despite comedy master Stephen Merchant being at the helm as writer-director, this movie never really comes off.

    Feb 27, 2019 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…
  • A solid cast and Merchant's respectful approach elevates the material to the top rope, but it's rising star Pugh who hits her finisher.

    Feb 22, 2019 | Rating: B | Full Review…
  • Fighting with My Family is as likable as it is generic. Pugh's performance is the best thing about the movie but the story, despite Merchant's comedic flourishes, feels stale at times.
