Movie Info

Acclaimed composer Daniel Elfman agreed to score -- for the first time in his life -- this cheesy drama-comedy by his brother Richard and the eventual result was a new career, for Daniel, that is. The Forbidden Zone is about a realm known as the Sixth Dimension, created by intentionally humorous and inventive sets, in turn created by Marie-Pascale Elfman who also plays Frenchy in the story. Apparently the Elfmans ran out of family members because Herve Villechaize and Susan Tyrrell star as the king and queen of the weird Sixth Dimension. The music of the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo and Daniel Elfman's compositions are great, but the goings-on in the imaginary kingdom often hit below the belt. The tour the earthlings receive of the kingdom reveals a plethora of ogres, demons, chained humans, animals, and whatever -- subjects of the king and queen, and subject to royal sexual abuse.more

Patently the only film of its kind that could give a home to its nutso musical numbers

If awards were given for sheer insane spectacle, this avant garde 1980 cult flick would certainly qualify as among the most gold-bedecked movies of the past quarter century.

A much better cult classic than "Rocky Horror"

Audience Reviews for Forbidden Zone

One by one, a cartoonish family is sucked into the 6th Dimension (ruled by king Herve Villachez and queen Susan Tyrell) in this cult musical comedy. Wild, weird and utterly unique, like a mixture of Jean Cocteau, the Three Stooges, and Betty Boop cartoons, with Busby Berkley-style choreography and music by Oingo Boingo.

A fantastically eclectic crazy musical, and I love it.

'Forbidden Zone': Don't Say You Weren't Warned!

Yikes! What netherworld of dementia did I just land in? Imaginative, outlandish, kitschy, purile, grotesque cult film fodder. Worth a look so you can decide for yourself how to finish the sentence, "So bad it's...."
