This film is prophetic. Everything it deals with has only amplified since its release, and with the idiot likes of Trump and MAGA and FOX and ICE and the rest of it gooning over the world, I fear that the premise of killing these distasteful greedy morons (as misguided as it is) is the most likely outcome, because the problems the film pointed at have only gotten worse.

God Bless America (2012) is a 105-minute-long USA dark comedy I saw on Prime in April 2026. Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwaite. There is a message here and more than once one of the characters lectures us on what that message is: modern American junk culture is bad. It takes 25 minutes to get through the litany of bad things happening to our main guy until he snaps to justify his snapping; the litany is a clichéd list. The world in which this film lives exists without police implications; it is a comedy after all. This is not a funny Falling Down. Watching this in 2026, you could be fooled into thinking it’s prescient about what 2011 saw as a coming apocalypse… Our fooling is that 2011 was not that much better than 2026 in terms of divisiveness, garbage and stupidity. Rewatch? No. Recommend? Maybe? Ehhhrrrr. 4/10.

I wasn't expecting it to be this violent. What made it especially disturbing was that the violence wasn't stylized which made it seen really realistic. Really relevant to our times but could become dated as time goes on. It is a perfect example of a black comedy. Black comedies are for adults. CSM was right to rate it 18+.
