Movie Info

At the prompting of his diplomat friend, Alex (Doug McClure), writer Ted Fletcher (Edward Albert) takes his wife, Laura (Susan George), and daughter, Amy (Amy Barrett), on an extended working holiday. Alex finds a house for them in Kyoto, Japan, and the Fletchers move in, laughing off rumors that the place is haunted. But the ghost of 19th-century samurai Shigero (Toshiya Maruyama) turns out to be very real, and is intent on making the family re-enact an ancient murder-suicide.

All Critics (3) | Rotten (3)

  • Director Kevin Connor initially establishes a flavorful mood, but it gets frittered away thanks to some increasingly silly sequences and the general doltishness of the lead characters.

  • Produced in the early 1980s by a Japanese production company, yet written, directed by, and starring tons of Americans, THWED is, well, it's really quite stupid is what it is.
