The result is an absurd, yet acutely palpable depiction of just how ridiculous it all really is. "I Voted" is as much a movie as it is an astute commentary on the state of modern America, with emphasis on the danger of ideological polarization, lack of empathy, and the need for mindful dialogues across party lines. Rather than preachy, it chooses to hold a mirror to its audiences, asking them to reflect on how they conduct their belief instead of judging which belief is right or wrong. Tyler Mann's direction also makes the most of the contained setting, keeping things engaging without losing the film's message. What makes the movie stand out is how relevant its story feels. I was already in a bad, pissy mood going into I Voted, so I expected it to feel like a chore. Within the first ten minutes, however, I realized I was enjoying it far more than I ever imagined. Like, wow. The editing is excellent, and the use of real archival footage gives the film an authenticity that immediately grounds its original premise. By the end, I genuinely felt as though I were trapped inside that polling location with the characters. It becomes a microcosm of a civil war kept, well, civil—at least for a while. The situation feels like a first date where everyone is desperately trying to remain polite: Let’s not discuss politics, religion, money, race, gender identity, or anything else that could destroy the evening.
