I'm Taraneh, 15 (2002)
Critic Reviews for I'm Taraneh, 15
A strong entry in the recent plethora of Iranian neo-realist films.
Sadr-Ameli opts for a tone of distanced objectivity, where melodramatic revelations are slow-pedaled; his documentary background is evident in the detailed portrait of institutional sexism and an even-handed struggle with the ethics of abortion.
This Iranian film quietly observes the title character's transformation from naïve schoolgirl to wary but proud single mother.
In its quiet way, Taraneh touches the hot issues -- jail, divorce, teenage love, unwed maternity -- and comes up with a convincing, positive answer to all.
Taraneh is superbly played by same-named Taraneh Alidousti, whose angelic face is made for the movie camera.
