As Dr Ling, Anna May Wong has little to do but act a mild role with dignity, plus some gentle humour. This she does, although the script makes her character a rather colourless personality.
Paramount should have spared us and its cast (Akim Tamiroff, Anna May Wong, Sidney Toler and J. Carrol Naish principally) the necessity of being bothered with such folderol.
It is just another gangster melodrama, lacking the excitement one expects in pictures of this type. It starts out pretty well, but as it develops it loses its fast pace.July 9, 2020 | Full Review…
Neat and quick, the film moves at a nice pace in its 56-minute run. Despite some bad editing early in the film, this is an interesting thriller with a great cast.March 17, 2019 | Rating: 2.5/5 | Full Review…
[It's] about a woman surgeon and a racketeer with noble instincts, who suffers a change of soul after she has saved his life. It seems a pity that this reformation has to wait until the end of the film... an awful lot of tedium could have been prevented.
