Jul 6, 2010 This has to be one of the most weird films I've ever seen! Based on Franz Kafka's unfinished novel Amerika... See more May 20, 2008 A really interesting film based upon Kafka's Amerika. The film is defintely charming, in a way, mostly due to it's extremely small scale (it almost seems as if it could have been made by someone I know). I did find parts of it to be quite tedious, but the overall sense of helplessness and dread is what saves the movie from failure. As far as Kafka adaptations go, I prefer Welles' The Trial, but this is still quite an interesting experiment (adapting a novel about America by someone who had never visited, shot in Germany in German as a substitute for the real America). Fascinating, but I wasn't fully won over. See more Read all reviews
