  • [it] is pure genre, but that is not to say that its genre is pure, given how deftly it ambiguates itself between being a story of ghostly vengeance and a tale of psychological breakdown, while leaving the disoriented viewer to call the difference.

  • The film builds up a suspense that turns into fear and uses practical and visual effects to great results.

  • Last Shift is profoundly, intensely, nightmare-inducingly creepy.

  • A solid horror film with savagely effective makeup effects, atmospheric mood, and disturbing psychological thrills set inside a claustrophobic location.

  • The film is a slow burn, DiBlasi takes his time to build of the horror sequences and it pays off. [Full review in Spanish]

  • One actress for most of the time, great camerawork, splendid sound design and a story that might not be all that new but it's perfectly executed. [Full review in Spanish]

Audience Reviews for Last Shift

  • Aug 22, 2017
Last Shift is one of the most frightening and intense films I've seen all year, the subject matter creeps beneath the skin after viewing and what begins as a cliché ridden snooze eventually becomes a whirlwind of terror and unease. With nods to Sinister and real life topics such as the Manson family murders, Last Shift is smarter than it realises it is and Arrow alumni, the beautiful Juliana Harkavy gives a standout and surprisingly good role as the wide-eyed protagonist teasing potential as a future "scream queen" with The Walking Dead and Alex Merkin's House of Bodies already tucked firmly under her belt. The villain, the "King of Hell" is terrifying throughout and definitely worth revising for a sequel. The only con to the film was that it often didn't feel original enough in places which was a big shame because it felt that Last Shift had even more potential than what was met. Certain clichés such as calls from beyond the grave and a demon walking with cracked limbs and hair covering their face felt a bit done to death. Overall, definitely worth a watch.

Solid horror film. Great story, pretty scary. I'd recommend checking this out.

It may be hard to believe that Harkavy's character wouldn't just leave the police station under such horrific circumstances, but the actress does a great job selling us her strong perseverance in a highly creepy, low-budget horror film that offers some very disturbing moments.

Some nice scares in this low budget horror. Good script and direction and a convincing performance by Juliana Harkavy help. Marred only by a somewhat predictable ending.
