  • One small cog is lacking: an interesting and intelligible plot.

  • I am getting a little sick of those nostalgia films about the good ol' days. I'm not sure we'll ever catch the spirit of the thirties and forties movies any better than the movies of the thirties and forties did themselves.

  • The worst offense in this unfunny comedy is the killing off of Robby Benson, who plays the boy-skipper of their sloop. How can you show the bloody murder of the one character an audience cares for, in a Peckinpah-style scene, in a so-called comedy?

  • Despite Donen's strenuous efforts to impart style and discipline to the proceedings, and the hard work of its cast, it simply meanders along... confusing movement for action all the way and making an awful lot of noise.

  • The equilibrium between the internal needs of the film narrative and form is too often fractured in favor of the latter, which makes us fear for the future career of Stanley Donen. [Full Review in Spanish]

I expected to like this movie right from the start since it had Gene Hackman & Burt Reynolds but it was boring beginning to end & I mainly kept it on as background noise while I did other stuff.I guess I should've known it was gonna suck after reading the movie description
