Movie Info

This is a routine comedy but it has two great actors at its fulcrum. Bob Traven (Jack Lemmon) returns to Italy on business after 40 years and is sought out by his former buddy Antonio (Marcello Mastroianni). Bob is up to his neck in work but unbends for the sake of old times and reluctantly agrees to take off with the exuberant Antonio to see old friends and relatives. Unknown to Bob, Antonio has been using his name and writing letters to his sister Maria, who had a brief romance with Bob when he was stationed in Italy after the war. The mix of past and present, along with the deception, create some funny situations but not enough to come up to the levels of the two stars.
