Huntin P @PaxVobiscum80 1 day ago Matrix 2 looks cool, real cool, if a bit too videogamey. The problem is, in order to make it work they have to resurrect the previous movie's villain, and how they explain his reappearance has all the plausibility of, "Somehow Palpatine returned". [sigh] Don't anyone tell me that this was the plan all along. Balderdash! Anyway, Smith makes a comeback, the only character in the original Matrix who had a sense of humour. We also get some hot eurotrash and exciting chase sequences, but a lot of the action looks too CGI-phony. It looks particularly phony when (if) you begin to grasp how much is being plagiarised from 1980s/90s Hong Kong action movies. For instance, Morphius falling onto the roof of the car: Michelle Yeoh did that in a Jackie Chan movie back in the day, and how! Compared to those martial arts capers, this American reproduction looks slow and affected. A lot of style, but nothing like the sense of danger and virtuosity you see in Chan's and Yeoh's vintage best.
