Neil D 01/23/2025 Very dark film in all respects. There never seems to be any daylight and the dialogue is mumbled all the time. Grim and brutal, if you like that sort of thing. I don't. It was depressing, dark and boring. I could not bear to watch past 30 minutes. See more Drew L @royal_films 08/26/2023 Damn good piece of film making. My mother's aunt's brother's nephew's wife's cousin was on the California trail and said this was a very accurate picture. She said Cusack did an amazing job he looks just like Dutch Albert and got all his mannerisms down. She also said Hirsch did a great job too and looks just like Patrick Tate and got him down pat too. Very accurate performances, almost like they knew the men. She said the story was how it happened and corroborates everything. They even filmed on location where it happened and made it look exactly like it was. Great job! The story is a bit dark, so be in the mood. The tension and the storytelling are great though. Overall a great movie to watch. Cusack is not very convincing as a cold blooded villain, but does okay for a supporting role. Be prepared for some heart wrenching scenes, both graphic and emotional.
