See more Margie R @McargieK 1h I saw this in IMAX & I’d like a refund. If it had been done as a parody of a dinosaur film it may have worked but this -no! The script is lame the main actors have on chemistry & honestly it’s so bad I laughed during what should have been the most frightening scenes. I can understand why they buried the release in August after The Odyssey & Spider-Ma. Also what did Euan MacGregor do to his face, it’s definitely off - a bit Bradley Cooperish😊. Do not waste your money on this in IMAX if you really want to see it go to a standard screening & just sit back & laugh, maybe ok for teens, not adults. While Nimrods debuted on the festival circuit at the Toronto International Film Festival—which often showcases indie projects—its corporate studio backing places it outside the independent film category; and if you were to mute the soundtrack of the legendary Green Day songs in the movie, it would have more of an indie movie type feel to it. There are multiple funny parts in the movie, and the acting is great! There are no big special effects, just funny scenarios with ridiculously hilarious outcomes. Green Day fans will love it. People from the punk/pop-punk genre will understand it, and everyone else will see an outrageous story with funny parts sprinkled about. Many of the jokes fell flat and the relationships felt hollow and the acting wasn't great. It feels like there's so many missed opportunities for the story to be better. This felt like the corporate safe movie for suburban punk kids. There was a great use of Green Day songs throughout the film which fit the scenes perfectly many times. It’s a love letter to the ’90s, but still feels modern, with a ridiculously good Green Day soundtrack that keeps the whole thing moving. I’ve been a casual Green Day fan for many years. Not an obsessive one, but I’ve seen them live many times, saw AMERICAN IDIOT in Berkeley before it became a phenomenon, and was lucky enough to catch NIMRODS long before this release. Obviously the music speaks for itself. Punk songs, pop songs, huge anthems, and sometimes really simple, poignant songs that have somehow connected with multiple generations. But I think it’s more than that. AMERICAN IDIOT was a tour de force, and now, somehow, they’ve conquered another medium with NIMRODS. It’s funny, charming, entertaining, and just a really good time.
