Critic Reviews for One More Time (When I Live My Life Over Again)
One More Time is a low-key pleasure with big rewards, the kind worth crooning about.
One More Time coasts by on Walken's idiosyncratic charm. He has a warm rapport with Heard, and there's solid support from Ann Magnuson as Paul's prickly sixth wife and Oliver Platt as Paul's long-suffering manager.
The whole cast ... sinks its teeth into the material, which is reasonably meaty.
Many fine small moments pepper the family dramedy "One More Time," but they don't add up to a satisfying enough whole.
The actors strike few sparks, even as combatants, but it's not entirely their fault.
Robert Edwards, the writer and director, explores the layers of melancholy contained within these familiar but authentically drawn characters, and he cleverly doles out virtue and vice to each while weaving in acid humor borne from regret.
Audience Reviews for One More Time (When I Live My Life Over Again)
One More Time is a rather pointless and drab character drama that just meanders about aimlessly. The story follows a washed up musician who plans a comeback and tries to reconnect with his estranged youngest daughter who he pushes to launch her own musical career. Amber Heard and Christopher Walken lead the cast and have good chemistry together, but they're given very little to work with. The music however, is well-done and the comedy delivers some clever satire. Yet despite the strong cast, One More Time is a lackluster film without much of a story.
Writer/director Robert Edwards looks at life with father, if dad was one of the Rat Pack. It's a rumination that surmises that "the good life" is not all that it's advertised to be. Chris Walken's performance holds the cookie up but is not enough to save it from a poorly realized script and songwriting. While still entertaining this one needed a wee bit more time in the pot.
