In a system corrupted by politics, greed and sex, there's an honest man in Buffalo who's made it his life's mission to hold his peers accountable. Dean Alessi is an attorney in Buffalo's Lawyer Disciplinary Office who fights for justice, even as he battles his own personal demons. Dean took an oath to protect the public from bad lawyers, and is willing to risk everything to keep that sacred promise. As the bodies pile up, Dean puts his own life on the line when he disobeys orders to expose a corrupt District Attorney who has committed the ultimate ethical wrong -- murder.

I like that a first-time feature director made a film about the morality of the legal system. I like that a guy primarily known as a character actor got a chance to not just play the lead, but play a good person. Go to Full Review

Doesn’t try to be flashy or reinvent the genre, and that’s so refreshing. This character-driven legal drama about integrity, burnout, and the cost of doing what’s right is just happy to tell a straightforward, grown-up story. Go to Full Review

By the time One of the Good Ones reaches the endgame, it’s a grimy, straight-ahead corruption story where the question isn’t whether the system is dirty. The real quandary is what it costs the one guy trying to scrub it clean. Go to Full Review

Alec C @RT99326505 2d A fine example of what a truly independent motion picture looks like in 2026. Not Jennifer Aniston putting on make up to go for an Oscar. Not a movie the studios can't market to twelve year olds and hence called independent to attract adults uninterested in super hero slop. One of the Good Ones is, in fact, one of the good ones. A nice blend of tones, some drama with some humor. A clever screenplay carried by capable actors. Someone involved with the production clearly knows something about the legal profession. The legal jargon sounds authentic. An excellent movie to watch if you're looking for a light thriller. Highly recommended. See more Hassan S @RT07342421 Apr 8 *One of the Good Ones* is the kind of small film that sneaks up on you precisely because it has nothing to prove. Directed by Julie O'Hora and set against the unglamorous backdrop of Buffalo, New York, it follows Dean Alessi, a lawyer whose entire job is to investigate other lawyers who've gone crooked — which, as you might imagine, doesn't make him the most popular guy in the room. The film blends legal drama, noir-ish mystery, and dry comedy in a way that doesn't always hit its marks, but there's something genuinely refreshing about a movie that knows its own scale and works comfortably within it. Dean speaks directly to the camera with a weary, been-around-the-block honesty, and underneath the corruption plot runs a quieter current of personal grief — a man still carrying the weight of losing his son, still trying to hold his marriage together, still choosing to do the right thing anyway. The story taps into real, everyday experiences around perception, identity, and the pressure to be seen as "acceptable" in certain spaces. Let's hope we can have MORE people in power like DEAN cuz See more Terry W @RT80696499 Mar 31 One of the Good Ones is A very nice film which not only highlights the whether there is integrity or lack thereof in the world of law, but is a quite beautifull portrayal of a very likeable lead chracter and his struggles. It shoukd be mentioned that the antagonist in the film is greta to watch too, and some would argue that a villain is equally as important as the hero. Check it out! See more Jerome V @Jeromevalverde Mar 31 A welcome reminder that indie films can be entertaining and fun. "One Of The Good Ones" tells the story of attorney Dean Alessi (Tom Paolino), a down-on-his-luck guy who expects honesty in people but understands the realities of power-grabs. Assisted by sidekick Stu Foley (the wonderful Roderick Garr) Dean decides to fight a murder cover-up and rampant corruption in the D.A.'s office. What makes this movie different is its light-hearted approach and the charisma of its main characters. A standout performance from actor Jacob A. Ware, playing DA Sam Markham as a fumbling, philandering, Jerry Lewis-inspired knucklehead. The sincerity of other scenes, such as where Dean's marriage falls apart before us, was genuinely touching and well-handled. It's a nice character study with hints of Cassavetes. The filmmakers present a positive message overall that makes you feel more complete at the end. See more Read all reviews
