RZA'S ONE SPOON OF CHOCOLATE follows Unique (Shameik Moore, "Dope" and voice of Miles Morales in the Spider-Verse films), a veteran and ex-convict seeking a fresh start in a small town. After an altercation with a gang of locals, he starts to suspect they may have something to do with the disappearance of young men in the area -- including his cousin. As he digs for the truth, he finds himself the target of not only the gang, but the local sheriff's office, whose involvement in the disappearances may be even more sinister. Instead of waiting for his turn to be picked off, Unique and those closest to him (Paris Jackson, RJ Cyler) decide to fight back in this sharply satirical and stylish action thriller from the visionary leader of the Wu-Tang Clan.

The necessity to keep this conversation going no matter what is one of the most crucial ones the film ends up transmitting. Too bad that by the time it happens, the audience’s patience, much like that of the protagonist’s, sadly might have worn thin.

While it does show some promise, its pacing and giving into its stereotypes/clichés keep it from becoming more than another black exploitation film stuck on its limitations. The fight scenes are good tho

One Spoon of Chocolate” moves at a steady pace, and the character development feels natural. We get to understand the lead—an ex-soldier standing up for himself and others—before things ramp up. The movie blends action and heavier themes around race, though the action keeps the focus. It’s an intense watch, but overall pretty engaging.
