Winny V May 30 As a horror fan, I have to sift through many copycats and shortcut wizards in order to get to something good. Redhead is something good. The lead, Johnna Hodge, portrays a character different from the vast majority of cookie cutter female leads. She is strong, she is vengeful, and that is where the similarities with other actresses end. She appears comfortable with allowing her scabs of trauma in real life to be torn off so that her soul can be seen by audiences. It may not seem obvious and she may just seem cold and callous but her portrayal of a woman scorned has got to be one of honesty. She evolves throughout the film, from vulnerable, to distant, to cold, to straight-up, bloodthirsty! This character is not a femme, social media warrior. She cuts a man's balls from his sack and feeds them to him! She uses saws, which you can tell are real, to end the men who threaten her existence and integrity. And lets talk about a shotgun to the head... THAT is what horror fans are looking for. I don't know what trickery the effects team was up to but watching a dude's head explode was reminiscent of some Tom Savini! All in all, this is a film where you come for the brutal kills and effects, but you watch it again because it's just an honest, pure, and well-planned story.
