The characters are dead on arrival and the techno soundtrack during the action sequences made us want to flee their funeral.
One of the most visually spectacular toons in recent years.
Their story is also old-school - and not always in a good way.
Redline doesn't boast much of a high-art story or clever dialogue, but the animation, stylistics and tone are art and visual stimuli at their very best.
Redline is one phenomenal ride! It far exceeded my expectations. It takes a simple concept and pushes it as far and as hard as it can (very appropriate for a racing movie). The animation is sensational with great style, imagination, and action (and a healthy dose of humor). The voice acting has epic attitude and heart. For fans of shonen sports anime, Redline more than delivers.
Oh, now THIS is a lot of fun. Think Wacky Racers turned up to 11 with a thumping soundtrack and some classy animation. Highly recommended!
it's based on a story from Katsuhito Ishii, so you know there won't be much to bite in that area. The animation is fantastic, and there's always something happening. A bit more story and this could have been even better, neverless, i still had fun watching it.
Takeshi Koike's Redline puts the gear in overload and comes rushing out full blast.
This animation is heavy on the science fiction and despite a thin plot, it offers a lot in a matter of 100 minutes. In fact, it offers too much. There are so many things thrown on the screen that there isn't enough time to explain or digest everything. Sure, this picture is far from boring, but is it an enjoyable watch? Somewhat. Many of the characters lack sufficient development, which make them difficult to follow and the same can be said about some of the plot details.
In regards to the racing, it is a blast. These scenes are packed with adrenaline and energy that provide a full on adrenaline rush.
Visually, the animation looks great. It has that mature look and feel to it, which works well, because this is made for an older audience. The voice work is also a positive, although it is difficult to screw that up with the over the top and wacky characters popping in and out from scene to scene.
Redline definitely has its moments, but maybe a little more control and time management of the story is what it needs.
