A rich, intense tale of a world order turned upside down. It’s poignant and perfectly cautions against the wealth inequalities of our time. It should have spent a little more time diving into those aspects instead of indulging in a prolonged first act.

1 star only for Mary Elizabeth Winstead. OMG! The Super Rich are bad. Somehow the disease knows this indicating their impending demise with ridiculous glowing teeth. The seriously wealthy hastily destroy everything they own to try to save themselves. Could have been hysterical but no. Save yourselves!! I’m sad that I watched more than an hour of this.

The concept of this movie is even more relevant now than when it came out 2 years ago. I think it shows the most realistic handling of what would happen if noticeably only the rich started dying (at least in Europe) without being a truly graphic movie. Most of the violence is implied until 2/3 towards the end. They did a good job of building tension and making the main character (Laura) sympathetic enough but also caught between 2 worlds. For most it would be difficult to give up everything you just received even knowing would be the death of you. It also made you question what it actually means to be rich and would the killing change depending on what the accepted definition of wealth was? I took off a star because they chickened out with the ending, which tells me maybe they don't know where they were going as much as they were just trying to get there. It's ok to make a clear statement of what your movies about. Overall still really enjoyed it!

I loved the premise of this movie, but it was just weird with the glowing teeth and a virus that somehow has knowledge of people's bank account even when they transfer the money. Maybe an AI based virus could do that I suppose. They never really explained the virus' mechanism very well. Maybe I need to watch it again which is not going to happen lol.
