DanTheMan 2 @DanTheMan2150AD Jan 29 Pure kelidoscopic chaos, Buddha's Palm goes for unapologetic maximalism and is utterly incredible to behold. Featuring more hand lasers than most kung-fu films would ever dare to feature and power escalation that borders on the cosmic, the film feels like a last, gleeful exhale of everything that made Shaw Brothers wuxia fantasies so intoxicating, pushing their formula to the absolute breaking point. Under the guidance of Taylor Wong's unique filmmaking lens, what we get is nothing short of magnificent. Perfectly paced to the point wherein I was dreading the film even coming to an end, it's a real visual marvel, from the incredibly colourful costumes and stylised lighting, to the elaborate sets and insanely bombastic fight sequences; it all works in tandem to create a heightened, almost operatic atmosphere of excellence. Buddha's Palm has so much unfiltered inventiveness and breathless enthusiasm for existence, it's practically infectious. See more 06/19/2011 A Shaw Brothers classic of fantasy martial arts. It has lots of over the top badass old school special effects. See more Read all reviews
