Unless something very good comes out between now and December, "Shuddh Desi Romance" will be the best romantic comedy made anywhere in the world for 2013.
Ms. Kapoor, in her early 20s, gives a performance that seems to reinvent female confidence.
Shuddh Desi Romance is an important film because it is current and encapsulates a confused Indian youth who, without public discourse, in the face of moralistic right-wing groups and immense social pressure, seek their way out of limbo land.
This is a film that will require a bit of patience as it trundles towards its conclusion, but spare some time and you will be rewarded with a fresh take on love that you haven't seen in a long time.
Before descending into the genre's typically overstated melodrama, Maneesh Sharma's pretty, personable film tackles some real modern issues facing Gen-Y Indians.
