Apr 02, 2015Hidden was selected as an entry at the After Dark Horrorfest. In this psychological horror tale, Kai returned to his hometown after his abusive mother died and left him her house in her will, strange things began to happen. It's quite decent but moved very slowly.

Sep 26, 2010I had a whole rant to write but screw it. I don't feel like wasting anymore time on this movie so here it is in a nutshell: it's simplistic, slow and boring with a capital Z(zzzzz).A.D. V Super Reviewer

Mosli, Bjarte Hjelmeland, Marko Iversen Kanic, Anders Danielsen Lie, Marius Rusti, and Karin Park GENRE: HORROR/MYSTERY Tags: crime, slasher PLOT: When a young man returns to his hometown to settle his dead mother's haunted estate, grisly phantasms from the past resurface and bodies start to pile up. COMMENTS: Young Kai (Joner) has a very nasty mother, one who locks him in a basement torture room and inflicts some very cruel violence on him. Kai breaks out one night and escapes, with his psycho mother hot on his heels. Running like the wind, he dashes out across a road and right into the path of an oncoming Mack truck. The truck doesn't hit Kai, but when it swerves to avoid him, it crushes and incinerates the parents of another young boy, who were parked on the berm. Now, many years later, grown-up Kai returns to settle his recently deceased mother's estate. The family home is dark and foreboding. As painful memories haunt Kai, something is haunting the house. Very spooky things are breaking loose there. Is Kai's mother stalking the old mansion from beyond the grave? And what happened to the other boy that night, Peter (Rusti), who was not in the crushed car? Worse, the townsfolk don't seem too thrilled that Kai has returned. A menacing girl working the desk of his hotel seems to know an awful lot about Kai and his dear old mum. She taunts Kai by telling him about a little "shortcut" between the hotel and his mother's house. As Kai struggles to deal with it all, he is wracked by terrifying visions. Or are they real experiences? Kia must hurry to make sense of it all, because now corpses are accumulating around the ol' homestead, the victims of a slasher, and guess who's the number one suspect? Keenly crisp, stunning cinematography and rural Norwegian locations accentuate Skjult's dark, gloomy visual footprint. A continually shifting plot unfolds from Kai's point of view. His feelings of horror are punctuated by otherworldly episodes, and these terrifying departures blur the line between hallucination and reality. Pål Øie also wrote and directed Dark Woods (2003) and his penchant for capturing the deep, dismal, tenebrous essence of the primal forest is distinctly apparent. It's been a long time since I saw a scary movie that was really scary, and Skjult made me jump out of my seat enough times that I finally had to sit on the floor.

Skjult - trailer
