Movie Info

The Cruel Swamp and Swamp Diamonds were reissue titles for the steamy Roger Corman-directed melodrama Swamp Women. The title characters-Marie Windsor, Jill Jarmyn, Beverly Garland and Susan Cummings-comprise the "Nardo Gang," a vicious female crime contingent. The ladies have stolen some valuable jewels and are making their escape through the swamp. Joining them is Carole Mathews, ostensibly an escaped convict but actually an undercover cop. Male lead Touch Connors later changed his name to Mike Connors, and still later starred in Mannix. Swamp Women is tacky and tawdry, to be sure, but not without its fascinations.

A silly low budget movie from Corman, but I like Garland in this movie and I thought it was fun. Overall it's okay.

eh. was this even Horror. (it was in my horror classics set, but I don't see the horror in it. it was more a guy flick w/ women who just cut of their jeans for short shorts. they didn't turn into anything & the worst was maybe a drowning & an alligator threat.

Watching some of the old MST3K episodes available for streaming on Hulu and Netflix (there is a different random selection on each platform). Whether it is Joel or Mike watching these awful movies with the bots I do not envy their torture. Their snarky comments add some entertainment value, but my ratings are based on the movie's quality itself and not the commentary broadcast from the satellite of love. This was directed by Roger Corman in the first couple years of his career. Of course any women-in-prison film's appeal is in big part based on salaciousness. It was actually enjoyable despite the cheesy dialogue. A police woman (Mathews) goes undercover to learn where three other career criminal women (Windsor, Garland, Cummings) have hidden a load of diamonds from a previous heist. On the way through the swamp they take hostage an explorer. He is an object for them all to fight over. It is funny how when the swamp gets too hot they each modify their prison garb to show off more skin, mostly leg.
