A stepping stone for its young target audience who deserve bigger and better things, and despite its lively pacing, this is a fairly trying animation to get through.
A bumbling excavator is not the worst idea, even if the new film fails to go the full Clouseau.
It's the general mediocrity -- plastic-looking characters, clichéd jokes -- that should deter you.
This little-awaited sequel to a 2012 original delivers jokes that fall flat, over-sexualised visualisations of women, and the most annoying cartoon sidekick ever -- a long-dead Peruvian mummy. Ghastly.
Another colourful animated adventure undemanding enough to please younger children.
The storytelling, characterisation and animation are all mediocre.
It's all very TV. And probably not worth the trip.
A feminist spin to the characterisation is a plus but this is something parents will stick on for the kids while they get on with something more gripping, like folding laundry.
Some of the visual gags are witty enough but for audiences spoilt in recent times by the gleaming brilliance of Pixar and Aardman animated features, this is very thin gruel.
The Tad franchise has the sense to steal from the best, even if such copy-cat strategies deprive the hero of any unique character of his own.
Throw in an effective orchestral score and a couple of genuine surprises, and the result is an unexpected delight.
... the only thing we hope is that in the future they will allow [Tad] to mature with each mission accomplished. [Full review in Spanish]
