It's a steady, charming, old-fashion fun Tarzan movie. The plot isn't the best, the characters are a bit chalky, and the animal-companions do get a little annoying.
Tarzan fights everyone in this movie, Arabs, Nazi's and even giant spiders. He must cross the desert to obtain a secret medicine. And Jane is away and Tarzan is running around with another girl in this movie, As far as Tarzan movies go its near the top, though the giant spider was a little cheap in appearance. 4 stars 3-28-12
I give this 8th Tarzan movie credit for breaking away from formula and trying some new things, but it's not one of the better episodes. It's interesting to see Tarzan, Boy and Cheetah the chimp leave the jungle and head out into the desert, but somehow their journey ends on King Kong's Skull Island. Not really, but it may as well be -- what is up with the large reptiles, man-eating plants, and giant spider? It seemed to come out of left-field. Nancy Kelly is a cool guest-star. Her self-serving (but still likeable) character is a refreshing switch from the doting females that populate these matinee movies. Cheetah the Chimp has a cute sequence where she goes around stealing men's turbans.
