Critics Consensus

With storytelling as robotic as the film's iconic villains, Terminator Salvation offers plenty of great effects but lacks the heart of the original films.

Missing is Cameron's signature action modification, best exploited in Aliens: the strapping female heroine. McG's testosterone-juiced world feels a little doomed without her. Go to Full Review

It brings me very little joy to report that this version of the popular Terminator franchise is silly, obtuse, and pointless. Go to Full Review

This rather cold exercise contains a synthesized quality and feels like it was executed by an artificial intelligence. Go to Full Review

Terminator Salvation lacks human connection as the backdrop of the story, and if it has any, they're far removed from the films starring Arnold. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

I liked “Terminator Salvation” and while it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, I think it has a place in the series. Go to Full Review

Mike 10/08/2021 loved whole experience See more Blake- N @PBSAniDom 5d I walked out of the cinema after Terminator Salvation with a long sigh more than anything else. It isn’t a total disaster, but it feels like a missed opportunity in a franchise that should’ve hit much harder. The idea of a full future-war setting with John Connor actually in the fight sounded great on paper, but the execution is strangely flat. Christian Bale tries to bring intensity as Connor, but the story doesn’t give him much to work with. Sam Worthington’s character arc is more interesting than expected, but even that ends up feeling predictable. The action looks decent at times, but it lacks the tension and creativity the earlier films had. It feels like a big-budget movie that forgot to make you care about what’s happening. Overall, it is a /10, it’s watchable, but disappointing. I expected a strong continuation of the saga and instead got something that just…exists. This movie was as good as the third one with even better art. Plot's good. And I don't want to spoil it but there's a smart twist in the movie. Definitely recommend it. See more Ian E @Ianecc Jan 21 Missing the point as to why this movie flopped. After Terminator 2, the story line remains the same. Good v bad defending and attacking John Connor. This film takes to post nuclear LA, various Terminators, totally different story line. A great story line, good acting , graphics, all round good movie. See more Tim B. @SlimTim0707 Dec 30 In an attempt to rally the base, Salvation diverts to a more serious tone away from the comedic antics that turned so many off with T3. Bale and Worthington give us their best attempt with the material but this dark movie never seems to find its way to any real salvation for the series. See more Read all reviews
