Misty L @MightyMisty 4d As a massive fan of shark movies who has seen almost all of them, The Bay isn't the absolute worst the subgenre has to offer, but don't expect good acting or smart writing. The decisions made by the women in the story were absurd and unbelievable. And who on earth serves bugs at a wedding buffet? It feels like a set designer tried way too hard to be quirky. If you're going to make a movie like this, you either need genuine suspense or you have to intentionally embrace the ridiculousness (like Sharknado). The geography and cultural execution were equally frustrating. They should have just set the film in Hawaii, where it was actually filmed, rather than doubling it for Thailand. For a movie set in Thailand, the "native" Thai dialogue didn't sound authentic at all. They sounded like Lao speakers trying to pronounce Thai. Some of the best food I've had in the world (and I've been to a lot of places) was in Thailand. The opening scene at the wedding banquet was stupid and a big turn-off from this flick, but it isn't the stupidest shark movie I've watched. Filmed primarily on some dude's brother's handicam in 36 inches of water, this wretched excuse for cinema had bad filming, awkward dialogue, abysmal acting and a plot that was kiddie-pool shallow. The $6.99 I paid to rent this appears to have been the entire budget. The props were found in an abandoned boathouse. I laughed hysterically, so there's that. If you are looking for a ridiculously bad movie for a really bad movie night, that's the only way i could ever recommend wasting your money and precious life momentson this absolute underwear stain of a movie.
