After recovering from injuries sustained in the mob attack upon himself and his creation, Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) falls under the control of his former mentor, Dr. Pretorius (Ernest Thesiger), who insists the now-chastened doctor resume his experiments in creating new life. Meanwhile, the Monster (Boris Karloff) remains on the run from those who wish to destroy him without understanding that his intentions are generally good despite his lack of socialization and self-control.

Still searching for answers to difficult questions but a bit behind the original movie. on the contrary to its title, the bride is not physically there but it adds to its philosophical discussion

Yes, a better film overall than the original. The creature develops a near elementary graps of speech and language. The performances are better. Basically gets down to the monster just wants friends and for no one to freak out when seeing him. But the deepest cut comes from the 'friend' made for him, who reacts in much the same way. Wild that she gets so little screen time while being the title character. Why have such a 'leever'? 3.3 stars

A flawless film from beginning to end. I would have liked more screen time for the Bride of Frankenstein, since what's the point of naming the film after a character who barely appears? The film has a circular ending, which for me also represents humanity's insistence on rejecting the "monstrous." New characters like Dr. Pretorious complement the narrative and bring out a new facet of Dr. Henry Frankenstein: To what extent should he take responsibility for his creation? Or is the monster already an independent being and cannot ask anything of its creator? Again, these questions are addressed with a bold narrative. The colors, contrasts, sounds... and how can one not be intrigued by that clever symbolism of the bread and wine!
