...a predictable and almost distractingly one-note Lifetime drama that seems to have been geared exclusively towards the lowest common denominator...

Elects a soft route of melodrama, using pleasant actors to communicate desperation, refusing salacious details to play right to the target demographic of sympathetic mothers and wives.

Home foreclosure meets hooker hell in The Client List, yet another entry into that ever expanding genre of recession blues cinema. While Cybill Shepherd doing Mae West with a string of raunchy one-liners, just about steals the show from Hewitt.

Audience Reviews for The Client List

Clearly a made for TV movie and slightly hammy, but fine to watch on Netflix. Can't imagine how they dragged a tv show out of it, but I'm interested enough to check the series out too. Even if JLH isn't the most fantastic actress.

I'm not a big JLH fan, but I actually enjoyed this.

Jennifer Love Hewitt plays Samantha, a mother of three who is about to lose her home after her husband is injured on the job and can't find work. She goes to work in a massage parlor but soon learns that the group of girls do a little more than massages. At first she is reluctant but when the chips are down and you are broke and the bills keep piling up, a woman will do anything to feed her children and keep the family home. Being a former Homecoming Queen, Samantha becomes very popular and is soon earning plenty of money to save their house but there is a price to pay and soon the guilt and shame felt by Samantha starts to break down her family life and her body takes a tired toll. Cybill Shepherd appears here as Jennifer Love Hewitt's mom.

Pretty much just watched this to see what Jennifer Love Hewitt was doing with her life. She is still absolutely gorgeous, but the film suffers from the Lifetime channel movie syndrome and really lacks anything special. Love Hewitt's role comes off more of a watered down version of Sandra Bullock's motherly character in "Blind Side", but with more skimpy outfits.
