Audience Reviews for The Great Commandment

  • May 03, 2020
A film specifically tailored to Christian audiences of 1940s U.S.A., this slight variation on the Jesus story follows a villager angry at Roman occupation and hopeful that this new upstart Messiah will lead the masses in an uprising. Included is just enough of the New Testament tale - that even peripheral followers will recognise - to justify the under-the-table preaching coated with a tacked on romance. Interesting primarily because the lead characters don't seem to fall under the magical spell other so-called Christian films find necessary to sell their point.
