Devoid of chills, thrills, or even cheap titillation, The Roommate isn't even bad enough to be good.

Christiansen's witless, badly acted thriller is a throwback to the early 1990s.
There are some interestingly nasty moments and some chills, but it's predictable and derivative.
This is trash of the tamest variety which elicits a few mild shudders at most.
Kelly and Meester hit their marks and look pretty doing it, while supporting players Cam Gigandet, Billy Zane and Aly Michalka fade into the background so blandly that viewers will never remember they were there.
The movie is exploitative schlock; both its
stars -- particularly Meester, who has something, although she herself has
perhaps not yet figured out what -- deserve better.
"The Roommate'' is dumb about psychology and suspense.
Instead of attempting to create a unique thriller, the filmmakers chose to make a typical one with bland characters and lackluster twists.
it's hardly worth sticking around for the routine climax of this toothless thriller just to see the ocular sweets get all chewed up and mangled.
One dry hump of almost thrills that are incredibly lackluster and void of any sort of suspense or tension.
the direction of the film is fraught with problems, and one feels that the promising young cast deserved better than this.
A storyline that unimaginatively rehashes countless pivotal elements from other stalker-themed movies means that the whole production is a dull and pointless exercise that twists and turns in precisely the manner you expect it to.
It might be genius compared to Single White Female 2: The Psycho, but know that The Roommate is ultimately about as sensitive as that dtv sequel sounds.
Frighteningly bad, yet I couldn't tear my eyes away...unlike the way Leighton Meester blithely tears out Aly Michalka's navel ring. Second most uncomfortable shower scene since "Psycho."
lol at this movie. I love how the girl is mentally unstable yet her parents allowed her to go AWAY to college haha. Great logic there. I also really like the fact that Michalka's character pretty much fell out of the movie entirely. She never called the cops or anything after she was attacked by the girl....she just kind of went away and we never saw her again haha. Omg. Movie definitely sucks a lot, but it was entertaining to make fun of. I can't even review it properly because it doesn't deserve to be reviewed at all.
This movie is entirely uninteresting and savagely boring. The minute it began I couldn't stop wanting it to end. The Roommate has terrible acting, awful direction and just a plain lame premise. There's been a lot of bad things churned out in 2011 but The Roommate is a top contender for the most thrill free thriller of the year.
A tame version of Single white female basically. These types of films are always geared towards the teenage market that might not have seen the film that nearly all the ideas are from. By having the low rating though it suffers from not being able to be more shocking or disturbing. Also a case of seen it too many times before in countless films that have tried to copy SWF success. Average thriller, but I suggest you watch Single white female instead.
