The Sixty-Year Mission charts the remarkable voyage of a cultural phenomenon that refused to stay on the screen. Through rare archival material and intimate conversations with the people who shaped its universe, the film explores how Star Trek challenged the conventions of television--and gave millions of viewers a new vocabulary for talking about humanity, technology, and what comes next. This is the story of the artists, ideas, and fans who kept Gene Roddenberry's remarkable vision of the future alive.

There are still plenty of strange new worlds left to explore, but as a celebration of the series that started it all, Altman's documentary is a mission well accomplished. Indeed, one can say that it is… fascinating. Go to Full Review

Theodore S Oct 12, 2026 Awful. One of the worst docs I’ve ever seen. Nothing but talking heads rehashing old, well worn and told Star Trek tales. Avoid at all costs. See more Anthony Oct 11, 2026 Absolutely phenomenal film! Star Trek’s message of IDIC iwas extraordinarily relevant when it began as it is much needed today. 🖖 See more Michael S Oct 10, 2026 Amazing documentary that was everything I’d expect from the Treksperts and more. Exceeded my expectations and I can’t wait for the sequel(s)! See more RANDALL Oct 9, 2026 A great story delivered by a documentary on the history of the original series. As a long time fan, I learned things that I didnt know and it was nice to see the remaining cast tell their stories. The main theme was Star Treks roots in diversity which I feel everyone should hear. See more Rery R @reryro Oct 16, 2026 Nothing new, just talking heads that seem to go on forever, telling and retelling the same stories we've heard for decades. And this is coming from a major fan, since 1966. See more jesse v Oct 11, 2026 as much as i appreciate the information of star trek origins, it is odd to have the interviews mainly not from the main cast. instead the doc included a movie critic, historians, writers from next generation, authors, and many random people. there were barely any mention of the newer shows. the creator and director were not on camera unfortunately. the stars that the old fans are mainly interested in only get one scene/interview. william shathner only has a couple interviews. half of the reference material is from other tv shows of yesteryear. the storytelling bounces between the show and hollywood status and racial and social politics. the chapter structure with the title cards completely dissolves by the second hour somehow. very very odd to attach five minutes of a SEQUEL documentary after the credits.
