Movie Info
In the 1830s, a cult whose members worship Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction, is abducting and killing tourists who come to Bombay in an effort to destroy the East Indian Company and its influence in their native land. Capt. Christopher Connaught-Smith (Allan Cuthbertson) is put in charge of neutralizing the murderers, but his cultural ignorance renders him ineffective. Capt. Harry Lewis (Guy Rolfe), who has worked in India for years, then takes over the case as it spirals out of control.

Too bad the melodrama wasn't as gripping as it should have been.

Audience Reviews for The Stranglers of Bombay

Nov 03, 2010Veering away from the sci-fi and gothic horror that was Hammer Films' bread and butter, The Stranglers of Bombay serves as a testament as to why their few adventure epics were more of a curious appetizer you later regret but ultimately convince yourself "at least you tried it" to rationalize the 90 minutes of your life you spent watching it. Reasonably well directed by Terence Fisher the movie isn't absolutely horrible but more of a dull story that was well photographed. Nothing too exciting, but it made me want to get a pet mongoose and watch Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom again. Again, not Hammer's finest hour but you can do a hell of a lot worse...Michael G Super Reviewer
