An interesting exploration of human sexuality against a backdrop of rural Mexico, with science fiction and body horror in the mix. There are hints of Lovecraft with a creature that descends in a meteorite from space, although the prudish author from Providence would have never approved of the graphic sexual pleasure the creature delivers to its “victims.” Enough is left unexplained to maintain an atmosphere of the weird to the ambiguous conclusion, but there is enough substance to the plot to keep one engaged until the end. The film is extremely compelling, the acting is very good, and the sexual charge and perversion are downright gripping. It flirts with danger, pleasure, and vulnerability in a way that makes it almost impossible not to watch. This film is NOT for everyone. But it is definitely worth the time.
